Crazy busy

That about sums up my life this week.

In my spare moments (3 a.m.?) I am reading a little gem called "May Contain Nuts: A Novel of Extreme Parenting", by John O'Farrell. It makes me laugh out loud. Has anyone else read it?

Back to the crazy...

3 am? Is that going to sleep or waking up? Either is just ungodly.

I haven't read it, but I'm going to have to see if they have it at the library and put it on my list of 70 things I have ready to put on hold!

It's kind of a caricature of some parents today-- the crazy, super-competitive kind. It will probably make you feel better about maybe having kids one day-- you'll think, "I can definitely do better than that..." :-)

There's one especially hilarious scene near the beginning where a group of nursery school kids are supposed to run a race in the grass, but all the parents are too scared to let the kids off their kid leashes. The mothers are esentially racing each other as the kids dangle and drag from the ends of their leashes...

Austin only lets me put a paltry five things on hold! Harumph!

I'm reading Elements of Style by W. Wasserstein right now, and it sounds kind of similar in its portrayal of parents. The characters are all Upper Eastsiders and their kids are all on Ritalin and take piano lessons in Italian.

Forgot to mention that the story takes place in London (Bdogg, Vernicious!). I think the racing bit is in Hyde Park...

Liz - I love London novels!! Ixnay on the kid leashes though. Don't they strike you as kind of awful? :(

Lisa - 5 is cruel!!!!! You must institute some library reform. You can have a little protest parade like the one we saw ;)

every time I think about kid leashes I think of Mike Myers doing that impression of the kid who can't eat sugar on SNL.

Does anyone else remember that?

Was that the sketch with Mike Meyers on a kid leash, chained to the monkey bars?
